Building your own real estate team will require you to step into an HR mindset and hire agents on your own. To help you fill roles and expand your real estate team, we’ve put together a blog with actionable plans to showcase the hiring process.

It’s important to remember that if you can attract leads, you can recruit talent. The first places you should look include your affiliate networks and the circle of agents you are always in contact with.

When you begin reaching out to agents in your sphere, leverage the bandwidth of your personal assistant or transactional coordinator in order to help you screen applicants before the first interview. This can help ensure that you only interview candidates who are well-suited for the job, which will ultimately save you from wasting time and energy on candidates who aren’t good fits.

The interview process with potential candidates is a great way to gauge the right combination of personality and productivity. When conducting interviews, you should consider asking the following questions:

  • What are your best channels to find buyer/seller leads?
  • How do you handle conflict?
  • What sets you apart from other real estate agents?
  • What tools do you love to work with?
  • What lead conversion strategy has given you the best success?
  • Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult situation
  • Why do you want to join my team?

A tool you can use to aid you in the hiring process is called the DISC model. The DISC model – which stands for Dominant, Influential, Stable, and Conforming – is a personality assessment method that can point out weaknesses in your team and highlight strengths. The DISC model is helpful because it is a strategy for avoiding hiring the wrong candidate for your team, which happens surprisingly often. In fact, a recent study in Gallup News found that companies fail to choose the candidate with the right talent for the job 82 percent of the time. Hiring the wrong candidate for a job isn’t just unpleasant, it can also cost you money!
